    09/05/18

    616 W. Main Street, Barrington, IL 60010

    616 W. Main Street, Barrington, IL 60010

Teen Clubs of Erika’s Lighthouse have formed in schools and universities throughout the Chicagoland area where trained club members provide peer-to-peer panel programming about depression and mental health.  Teen Club members speak to their classmates about depression, the warning signs to look for, and how to get help for their peers.  The goals of an Erika’s Lighthouse Teen Club is not just to educate their classmates about depression, but also to help break the stigma associated with depression and to develop a culture of good mental health in schools so that teens who suffer from depression can get the help they need.

Take a step towards making a difference by becoming a part of the Erika’s Lighthouse chapter at BHS.  Stop by the Commons after school on Wednesday, Sept. 5th to learn more!

ADULT MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID TRAINING

Adult Mental Health First Aid is an 8-hour training course ideal for anyone who interfaces with the public. It was developed because more than 1 in 4 adults will have a mental health challenge such as depression, anxiety, impulse control or misuse of drugs or alcohol in any given year. The National Council on Community Behavioral Healthcare has begun working with community advocates to implement MHFA to equip the public with the needed skills to help people who are experiencing a mental health crisis. The data demonstrates that this program helps those trained to better identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illness, which improves the outcome of the event for everyone. The training open to anyone interested in learning about mental illness and how to respond to someone in a mental health crisis. No previous mental health training needed.

All attendees receive a certificate of attendance for completing the 8-hour course.

Research shows that a connection with a trusted adult is one of the strongest factors in preventing school violence.

Join Mandy Burbank from AMITA Behavioral Health to learn why it is important for our children and teens to identify a trusted adult.

    • What qualities should they look for?
    • What is the role of a trusted adult?
    • What do you do if you are the trusted adult?
    • What resources are available at the school and
      in our community?

Come learn how a single, personal connection can make a difference.
